Foreign Minister Malmer Stenergard and Minister for International Development Cooperation and Trade Benjamin Dousa (M) hold a press conference to go through the government's stance and the efforts made after the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023 and the subsequent war in Gaza.

It is crucial that food, water and medicine quickly reach the hard-hit civilian population, many of whom are women and children, who are currently living in completely inhumane conditions, says Malmer Stenergard.

Using the starvation of civilians as a method of warfare constitutes a war crime. Life-saving humanitarian aid can never be politicized or militarized.

On a direct question of whether she believes Israel is guilty of war crimes through starvation, she responds:

Right now, there is a lot that suggests that Israel is not living up to its commitments under international humanitarian law.

It is ultimately the courts that should decide this.

The government has faced harsh criticism in recent times for stopping support to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa).

Malmer Stenergard emphasizes that instead, support has been increased to other organizations, such as the UN's food program, Unicef and the International Red Cross Committee.
