The fixed mortgage rates rose in September for all binding periods, show figures from the Statistical Central Bureau (SCB).

”We see that all fixed mortgage rates turned upwards in September, at the same time as the variable mortgage rate decreased”, says Irina Wiman, economist at SCB, in a press release.

The average interest rate on fixed-rate loans with binding periods of between 1 and 5 years was 2.88 per cent.

The average variable mortgage rate was in September at 2.80 per cent, down from 2.86 per cent in August. The decline occurs gradually in pace with the Swedish Central Bank lowering the interest rate.

The fixed mortgage rates are not directly controlled by the Swedish Central Bank's monetary policy, but more by expectations of upcoming inflation.
