Finland's air force is removing the swastika from its flags, reports Yle.
The world has changed, and we live in accordance with the times, says Colonel Tomi Böhm, commander of the Karelia air squadron, to the channel.
The swastika has been used as a symbol in the Finnish air force since 1918. When the flags are now to be renewed, it will be removed, after pressure from society. In this way, "embarrassing situations" in meetings with foreign actors can also be avoided, according to Yle.
From the air force headquarters, the symbol has already been removed.
Historically, the swastika, which has occurred for a long time in several cultures, has, among other things, symbolized luck. Since Hitler took it as a symbol for his party, it is, however, strongly associated with Nazism.
