Konsta Helenius was responsible for one of the goals that defeated giants Canada in the semifinals and put Finland in the final for the first time since the home World Cup in 2022.
In the final, the 20-year-old was in focus again.
And it's probably the goal the Buffalo player will remember most when the championship in Switzerland is summed up. He got past the home team's Ken Jäger and put the puck past goalie Leonardo Genoni at 10:42 of overtime.
A performance that decided the final - and ensured Finland's World Cup success.
For the Finns, it was a long-awaited gold. After the success on home soil in 2022, when the national team won the final against Canada, three medal-less world championships followed.
For Switzerland, however, the drought continues. The nation's third consecutive final ended in the same way as the previous ones, goalless and with a loss. It is Switzerland's sixth silver.
Earlier on Sunday, Norway won the bronze medal match against Canada, 3–2 after extra time, and took the national team's first World Cup medal on the men's side.
