"It is sad for me, but at the same time I have many fond memories to comfort me, and it is wonderful to know that there is still a future in sports and creativity for me," says the 30-year-old in a press release.
She will continue, among other things, as a trainer and lecturer.
Taljegård ended her career at the age of 18 but made a comeback 21 months later. She had her international breakthrough at the age of 25, when she finished 15th in the World Championships in Stockholm.
"The idea was to end my career after the championship, but my strong performance there instead opened new doors - and five years later there have been five more European Championships, two World Championships and one Olympic Games," she says.
The 30-year-old will compete in her last race in May.
