It was a visibly frustrated Klæbo who left the finish line after finishing only fourth in his quarter-final sprint on Saturday. The Norwegian threw his poles and, according to Viaplay, also tore his vest before leaving the competition area.
At that time, there was still hope of advancing as a "lucky loser", but that lifeline disappeared a little later and Klæbo was eliminated.
It was an unusual sight when 29-year-old Klæbo lost his balance about halfway into his quarter-final. He managed to stay on his skis, but lost ground and had to chase towards the end. When he made a bad turn towards the finish line, the gap to the leaders in the heat became too great.
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo won the two individual sprints held earlier this winter, in Ruka and Trondheim.
On Friday, he also won the sprint relay in Davos paired with Erik Valnes.
