No county is meeting the government's target for 2035 that 25 percent of all first-year students at upper secondary school should choose the science or technology program. Today, the national average is 21 percent, and only in Skåne is a clear increase visible, according to the Swedish Engineers Association.
"Very worrying," says Johan Kreicbergs, head of social policy at the Swedish Engineers Association, in a press release.
"Sweden needs more engineers in the future to succeed with both the green and digital transitions as well as the major defense buildup," he says.
