No county is meeting the government's target for 2035 that 25 percent of all first-year upper secondary school students should choose the science or engineering program. Today, the national average is 21 percent, according to the Swedish Society of Engineers.
"Very worrying," says Johan Kreicbergs, head of social policy at the Swedish Engineers Association, in a press release.
"Sweden needs more engineers in the future to succeed with both the green and digital transitions as well as the major defense buildup," he says.
