The women's national team's top scorer – eleven goals so far – has been selected for the decisive League of Nations matches away to Italy and at home to Denmark.
Schröder was selected for the European Championship qualifier against England and France last summer, but did not get any playing time.
No guarantees are being made that she will feature at Stadio Ennio Tardini on May 30 or at Strawberry Arena in Solna on June 3.
But Gerhardsson is having a hard time hiding her curiosity about what the teenager can deliver. This also goes for Hammarby forward Ellen Wangerheim. The 20-year-old was called up to the League of Nations gathering in the spring when Lina Hurtig withdrew due to injury.
"Very good qualities"
Two different types of players with very good qualities. Both score goals and points. How can they deliver against really good opponents? They get to meet skilled central defenders in the national team during training and there you get to see their qualities and get answers on whether it's enough against Italy and Denmark, and also possibly in the European Championship.
Wangerheim made her A-national team debut against Italy via a substitute appearance in the 73rd minute.
A debutant is included in the squad and it is Hammarby's 18-year-old wing-back Smilla Holmberg.
She is an extremely fast wing-back. She has developed a lot during the spring and is starting to produce points. A very exciting player who we want to see in our environment and what she can deliver, says Gerhardsson.
The national team captain, who will step down after the European Championship and will be succeeded by Tony Gustavsson on August 1, will select the European Championship squad shortly after the League of Nations.
Rubensson not out
He has not given up hope on Elin Rubensson.
There are a few matches left with Häcken and we'll see how it is with her injuries and when she's back. If we rewind the tape to the World Championship, she was one of our best players. There is always a hope that she will come back, but also a time factor that plays in. Right now, it's a bit uncertain, says Gerhardsson.
The European Championship premiere is played on July 4 against Denmark in Geneva, Switzerland. Blågult also has Poland and Germany in the group.
