President Nikos Christodoulides may continue to rely on his former party, the Democratic Union (Disy), which is set to become the largest party in parliament with just over 27 percent of the vote. The second-largest will be the communist Workers' Progress Party (Akel), with around 24 percent.

Behind them, the National Popular Front (Elam), with roots in the Greek neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn, almost doubled its support, winning 11 percent of the vote and eight of the 56 active parliamentary seats. This is the second consecutive election in which Elam has doubled its representation in the chamber.

The parliament has 80 seats, but since 1963 the Turkish Cypriot seats have been left vacant, meaning that the election only concerns the 56 Greek Cypriot seats.
