Under the night, Russia fired 407 attack drones, 38 cruise missiles and six ballistic missiles at Ukraine, according to the country's air force.
"Another massive attack on cities and daily life," writes President Volodymyr Zelenskyj on X and states that a total of 50 people have been injured in the country.
The air raid is reported to be the second-largest during the war, since Russia fired a total of 472 drones and missiles at the same time last weekend.
Explosions have been heard in Kyiv in several rounds during the night, according to the Ukrainian public service company Suspilne. For hours, there were loud noises and the sound of machine guns as the capital's air defense tried to shoot down incoming projectiles.
Rescue workers killed
In Kyiv, four people have been killed and rescue personnel are still working at several locations in the city, according to Mayor Vitalij Klytjko. Three of the dead were rescue workers, according to the country's state emergency service. A number of buildings have been damaged, as well as several railway tracks.
The air raid sirens also wailed in several other Ukrainian regions during the night.
In Lutsk in northwestern Ukraine, several people have been injured, according to Governor Ihor Polisjtjuk. Russia attacked the city with 15 drones and six missiles, he adds. Among other things, a multi-family house was attacked.
Explosions have also been reported from, among other things, Chernihiv in northeastern Ukraine, as well as Ternopil and Lviv in western Ukraine, according to Suspilne.
Last night's extensive Russian attack comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin promised revenge for Sunday's Ukrainian attack on Russian military airbases. On Friday morning, the Defense Ministry in Moscow claims that they have attacked Ukrainian "military installations" in response to Kyiv's attacks, writes AFP.
Attacks on Russia
In Sunday's Ukrainian drone attack, it is reported that a number of Russia's strategic bombers, which are used to shoot cruise missiles at Ukrainian cities, have been destroyed.
And the Ukrainian attacks seem to continue. According to Russian media, an oil refinery in Engels in southwestern Russia is on fire on Friday morning after a Ukrainian drone attack. A little further west in Russia, in the Tambov region, Ukrainian drones are said to have attacked an arms factory. Attacks are also reported from the Moscow, Tula, Belgorod and Kaluga regions.
Russia confirms that Ukraine has launched attacks on several parts of Russia and Russian-occupied Crimea, but mentions no damage.
