The Emmy-winning South Korean thriller series starts airing on December 26 on Netflix.
.
What is the new season about?
In the first season, Seong Gi-Hun, alias player 456 (Lee Jung-Jae), won the entire violent competition. Now he's back in the game to make sure it stops for good and at the same time try to save as many lives as possible. But it starts shakily when 455 fellow players need to be coached in "Red light, green light" and the bullets start flying.
.
Besides the good intentions, why would Seong Gi-Hun return to the murderous game at all?
The creator and director Hwang Dong-Hyuk has in an interview with Los Angeles Times motivated the main character's return with the great change he underwent at the end of the first season.
When he came out of the game as a winner, he discovered that his mother had died and dyed his hair. Even though he tries to return to his normal life, the damage is already done. He can't go back because of his trauma.
.
Will it be just as dramatic for viewers this time?
Yes. The creators hint at a "shocking" scene where Gi-Hun plays Russian roulette to press information out of his opponent. Hwang Dong-Hyuk has revealed that the scene is inspired by the film classic "The Deer Hunter".
.
What is the biggest difference between season one and two?
In the first season, the game was "only" about survival. In the new season, they delve deeper into human nature. Who among the players is willing to let others die to become rich themselves? The game's rules have changed so that players vote after – not before – each competition, and if the majority votes to stay and earn even more money, it can mean that those who want to leave must die.
.
Will there be more seasons of "Squid Game"?
Yes, Netflix has already confirmed that there will be a third season of the series – which will also be the last.
