The EU Commission is presenting a marine pact to be followed by a marine act in 2027, in order to provide better conditions for the seas and those living in their vicinity.
”The EU's marine pact is not a message in a bottle – it is a concrete action plan. Through more knowledge about the sea and stronger safety at sea, we protect our waters and communities”, promises the EU's Commissioner for the Sea and Fisheries, Costas Kadis, in a press release.
The pact contains promises of a long range of strategies for both the environment and fishing and tourism. Among other things, it includes the mandatory introduction of digital catch reports in fishing from 2026, a special plan to clear old mines – starting in the Baltic Sea – and the creation of a European drone fleet for monitoring at sea.
