Ukrainian refugees in the EU receive extended protection until at least March 2027.
The decision was taken by the EU's justice and home affairs ministers on Friday at the proposal of the EU Commission.
“The EU continues to show its solidarity with the Ukrainian people. We will continue to provide protection to millions of Ukrainian refugees for another year,” says Tomasz Siemoniak, minister from Poland, the spring chair country, in a press release.
The EU opened its temporary protection immediately after the renewed Russian invasion in February 2022.
