The Czech Ester Ledecka was at the Olympic Games 2018 the first woman to win gold in two different sports. Ahead of the games 2026 in Milano and Cortina, the 30-year-old chooses to decline the medal chance in downhill. The event takes place on the same day as another major gold chance: parallel giant slalom in snowboard.

On February 8, the snowboarding parallel giant slalom will be decided. An event that Ester Ledecka has won two consecutive Olympic Games gold medals in.

Half an hour later, but a four-hour car ride away, the women's downhill will start – an event where Ledecka this year took World Championship bronze.

The Czech tried to appeal the schedule to the International Olympic Committee, but the appeal was not accepted. Ledecka therefore chooses to skip the downhill.

I cried a little a few times about it, but we did the best we could, said Ledecka on Monday.

I understand that it's not easy to coordinate the program, but I thought it would work. I'm the only athlete who has qualified for competitions in two sports for the third time, so I hoped they would take that into consideration.

Ledecka's second Olympic Games gold in 2018 was in super-G, which will be decided on February 12.
