Early in April, three capybaras escaped from Yangzhou Zoo in eastern China. Two of them were caught relatively quickly – but the third evaded the animal handlers until yesterday, when she got stuck in a set trap.
”The escaped child has returned home!", wrote the zoo in social media on Tuesday.
The capybara called Doubao, Chinese for ”bean bun”, seems to have enjoyed life on the loose. She has gained weight and still has ”soft and shiny” fur, according to the park.
”It seems like she had it good out there”, they write.
Doubao's escape companions, Bazong and Duoduo, were found in a lake and a dumpster, respectively.
Capybaras are the world's largest rodents and can weigh up to just over 60 kilos. The animals, which lately have become increasingly popular in social media, live wild in South and Central America.
