Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan repeated on Sunday his support for a two-state solution on Cyprus and urged the outside world to accept the current division during his visit to the Mediterranean island.
"It is time for the international community to make peace with the realities on the ground", said Erdogan.
Just days before the visit, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced that the latest talks between Cyprus's rival leaders had been "constructive". They have, among other things, discussed the opening of border crossings and agreed on increased cooperation on environmental issues.
Cyprus has since Turkey's invasion in 1974 been divided into a Greek Cypriot southern part and a Turkish Cypriot part in the north. The Turkish Cypriot part is only recognized by Turkey.
