Emil Ruusuvuori Discusses Panic Attacks and Tennis Break

Emil Ruusuvuori didn't intend to go into details about why he took a long break from tennis last year. Now he's doing it anyway. "I got my first panic attacks four years ago. I hardly remember anything from my last match in Wimbledon last summer", the Finn tells.

Ruusuvuori has been ranked as high as 37th and has beaten several of the best players. As recently as last summer, he defeated the seeded Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas at Wimbledon.

The Grand Slam tournament is, however, a blur for the 26-year-old Finn, who now explains why he ended last year with a six-month competition break.

"When I made my comeback, I decided not to tell everything I had experienced. But I feel I need to share my thoughts on what has happened and about the sometimes challenging daily life of an athlete," writes Emil Ruusuvuori on

.

The panic attacks started already four years ago, and during the past year, the problems worsened, he writes.

"I hardly remember anything from my last match at Wimbledon last summer, and I still get attacks," writes Ruusuvuori and continues about the break:

"I didn't touch a tennis racket for 4.5 months, I simply couldn't go out on the court."

Emil Ruusuvuori, currently ranked 235th in the world, made his comeback in February and has since participated in several tournaments at levels just below the ATP tour.
