Following Wednesday's parliamentary decision, the government will issue a decree on the details and payment of the support, which also covers gas prices.

The Swedish Social Insurance Agency is preparing to start paying out the money, a total of approximately SEK 3.4 billion, to households in the second half of June, the agency's press service told TT.

A few thousand

For owners of a villa, townhouse or holiday home, the support can amount to somewhere between 1,100 and 1,850 SEK depending on where in the country the property is located and how high the consumption was during January and February this year. This means less in the north, more in the south.

For residents in residential or rental apartments with their own electricity bill, this can be just over 100 SEK in the north and just over 200 in the south.

Those who live in residential or rental apartments where electricity is shared by the association or property and is included in the fee or rent will not receive any support. The government assessed that it would be too complicated and take too long to present a proposal on how the support would be distributed to them. Therefore, residents there will miss out on the one or two hundred kronor it might have been.

Didn't kick in

The government launched its proposal in March after a few harsh winter months that, especially in northern Sweden, led to significantly higher electricity bills than usual.

It had then become apparent that the electricity subsidy that the government had proposed last fall would not kick in. This was because the average price of SEK 1.50 per kWh for an entire month, which the government had set as the threshold for payments, would not be reached despite the cold winter.

Instead, the current support was launched, based on consumption during January and February of this year.
