The Newcastle player hit the cross that ultimately ended up at Benjamin Nygren's feet – and led to the 1-1 goal after 33 minutes at the Stade de Genève.
Then the fun was over for Sweden.
The national team lost the game in the second half and 1-1 quickly became a 1-4 loss. Despite many goals behind, Anthony Elanga believes that there are positives to take away from the first match with new national captain Graham Potter.
We haven't had many practices with Graham... What we can see right now: We're building on something good, we can just keep working hard and listening to how Graham wants us to play, he says.
We've been working on being compact and then when we get the ball... It's these little details, if we can just keep working hard on them, we can score two or three goals in the first half.
Elanga likes the national team's first half and says that others should have been better, but that it is still a journey until it counts for real.
"We're going to give ourselves a good and positive atmosphere so that we're ready for the playoffs in March. We're just going to build on it and do better," he says.
The next chance to improve their game is on Tuesday, when the qualifying group ends with a home match against Slovenia. As mentioned, the playoffs await in March thanks to the victory in the Nations League.
