The Swedish curling men are the reigning Olympic champions and have their sights set on another gold in Cortina in February. They can get there as fresh European champions after their impressive victory against Scotland in the semi-final. It's really nice to win this match, says skipper Niklas Edin.

Scots Bruce Mouat, Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan played their entire game and swept the field with the Swedes in the group stage.

The 4–11 loss could not be talked away.

But the best way to deal with a loss is to learn from it. And the lesson was certainly learned. Edin, Christoffer Sundgren, Rasmus Wranå and Oskar Eriksson brought out their best play when it was really needed.

We've faced them a million times before. We were in the same situation in the Olympic final (Beijing 2022). We had to play at our best. I think we played much better now that we've done it this week," Edin said on SVT's broadcast.

With his last stone in the ninth round, Edin, with delicate dexterity, secured two points – and went from 5–5 to 7–5 before the tenth and final round. There, Sweden extended its lead to 8–5.

We came in with the right mentality and had the right focus for the match and executed it all well, says Niklas Edin.

The 40-year-old has the chance to win the eighth European Championship gold medal of his career. The first came in 2009 in Aberdeen.

In the European Championship final (3:00 PM on Saturday), Switzerland awaits, who won the semi-final against Italy 8–7.

But before that, Swedish curling can celebrate its first gold. Anna Hasselborg, Sara McManus, Agnes Knochenhauer and Sofia Scharback will play for the women's title from 9:00.

Scotland awaits in the final in Lohja, Finland.
