From Good Friday to Easter Monday, it usually takes at least five and a half hours, instead of the usual three hours, to travel between Gothenburg and Stockholm. Even travelers between Gothenburg and Malmö will have to count on longer travel times.
Easter is a traditional weekend for maintenance work on the railways. Fredrik Edvardsson, coordinator at the Swedish Transport Administration, has previously stated to TT that major jobs are awaiting at the Olskroken traffic hub in Gothenburg, which means that train traffic will have to be diverted.
The reason is that fewer people commute to and from work during Easter.
The trains traveling between Stockholm and Gothenburg will take a long detour via Värnamo. On some journeys, buses will be used for the entire route.
The extended travel times apply to SJ, but also to competitors VR and Vy.
Train journeys between Gothenburg and Malmö will take longer than usual, partly due to the construction of a new railway tunnel under Varberg, which is expected to be completed this summer. The train will then take a detour via Alvesta.
