Andreas Kramer, who ran 800 meters in the World Championship, points out that it is the same for everyone, but that the organizer should have tried to find a better solution.
It is important to be careful about how to set it up in the best way, because it becomes a bit different from a performance perspective. It is not optimal, he says.
If we athletes had been allowed to decide, it would not have looked like this, says Kramer to Expressen.
The warm-up arena is located in Yoyogi Park in Tokyo, about three kilometers from the World Championship stadium. But it is rather the time it takes to get between the arenas that is the problem, not the distance.
Took the wrong way
To the qualification in triple jump, it took about 25 minutes for my bus to arrive. It took some detour and went the wrong way. I do not really know what happened, because to the final it only took ten minutes, says Maja Åskag.
Greg and Helena Duplantis, parents and coaches of pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, also have bad experiences.
Before the qualification, it was very chaotic. We coaches were not allowed to ride the same bus as the athletes from the warm-up arena to the stadium, so when it left, we were left standing waiting for a new bus that never came. But they can be very delayed, says Greg Duplantis.
In the end, I and Helena felt: ”fuck it”. We took a taxi. When we finally arrived at the stadium, it was completely full on our seats.
Did not affect ”Mondo”
Before the final, Greg and Helena Duplantis chose not to go to the warm-up arena.
Armand ”Mondo” Duplantis experienced no hassle before his gold evening, crowned with the world record of 6.30.
– For him and the other competitors, it was completely calm. No problems. It was for us that it became difficult, says Greg Duplantis.
