Thunder rumbled over Adelaide, but on the sand under the roof of the arena there was only cheering. Both the eliminated players and the visiting fans wanted to see a replay of the Olympic final in Paris.
Germany's Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler had knocked out favorite team after favorite team on their way to the semifinals and now they were seeking revenge for last summer's final loss at the Eiffel Tower.
The first set belonged to the Swedish duo, however. Thanks to some sharp blocks and cleverly placed balls, Åhman/Hellvig were able to completely outplay the Germans and take the first set with a crushing 21–10.
The second set was, as expected, a much more even affair. Then the Swedish crowd favorites showed exactly why they were the Olympic champions. With Abba echoing through the speakers, they played their way to another championship final after 21–14 in the second set.
The final will be broadcast on SVT at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday and the winners will be the first Swedish World Championship gold medalists in beach volleyball ever.
