John Lennon's girlfriend Yoko Ono, the strains of celebrity and creative disagreements have all been blamed for the Beatles' breakup. But now, documents that reveal internal conflicts within the group are being sold.
Among other things, the documents show that the band was investigated by the British tax authorities after manager Brian Epstein died in 1967. They also reveal that Paul McCartney opposed the other band members' decision to hire Allen Klein as the new manager.
The documents, which were discovered in a cabinet where they had been stored since the 1970s, contain copies of the Beatles' advisors' meeting minutes, lawsuits, and a copy of the band's original partnership agreement from 1967. The Beatles stopped playing together in 1970, but the legal process surrounding their joint business was not completed until 1974.
The documents will go under the hammer next week, announced the British auction house Dawsons on Monday.
