The British Channel 4 has produced the documentary “Hitler's DNA: Blueprint of a dictator.” In it, specialist Turi King has analyzed DNA samples extracted from a bloodstain on one of Hitler's garments that were matched to the DNA of a relative.
The analysis shows that Hitler carried a mutation in the prok2 gene, strongly associated with Kallmann syndrome – which can lead to underdeveloped genitals and low testosterone levels. The mutation usually causes either one or both testicles to not develop normally.
According to the documentary, the researchers also found genetic signs of a high tendency for antisocial behavior.
The find lends some support to the old rumor that Hitler was missing a testicle, something that British propaganda already claimed during the war. Many soldiers also sang the lyrics “Hitler has only got one ball” to the tune associated with the film “The Bridge on the River Kwai.”
At the same time, the DNA evidence shows that Hitler was not of Jewish origin, dispelling a persistent myth that has circulated since the 1920s. The documentary sparks new interest in how heritage and environment shaped one of history's most infamous leaders.
Correction: An earlier version of the text contained an incorrect statement about when Hitler took his life. The correct statement is that it was 80 years ago.
