The lawsuit came after the FCC forced the company to apply prematurely for new broadcasting licences for ABC's television stations, writes Sky News .
The background is President Donald Trump's demand that talk show host Jimmy Kimmel be fired, after a joke about the US first lady having a "widow-to-be glow." His monologue was broadcast before the Washington Correspondents' Dinner in the spring, when an attack on the building caused the presidential couple to be evacuated.
Disney is now accusing the Trump administration of punishing the company and threatening its right to free speech, due to “programmatic and editorial decisions that the administration disapproves of.”
The FCC says the review of the broadcast permits has nothing to do with Kimmel, but was triggered by Disney's diversity and inclusion policies.
