The star player from Eslöv made three double bogeys and finished the round three over par. On the 16th hole, with par five, he needed to make a birdie to clear the qualifying limit, but instead the ball ended up in the water, and yet another double bogey.
Sad, but that's kind of how it's been for me these two days. I've made double bogeys out of nowhere, he says.
Åberg went around in a total of 75 strokes, three over par, and is therefore eliminated and will not play further over the weekend.
It was about five-six double bogeys these two days and it's hard to be in the top when you're doing that, says Åberg, who stayed on +2 total.
Neither did Henrik Norlander clear the "cut" after a 71-round on Friday. He was on par total and it required a stroke under par overall to get to play the two final rounds.
The only Swede who made it is Jesper Svensson, who climbed up to shared 49th place after going around two under par. Svensson is also –2 overall.
Leading are Min Woo Lee from Australia together with American Akshay Bhatia, who both went around six under par and now stand at a total of minus 11.
The round's biggest upswing was made by Justin Thomas from the USA, who climbed 105 places to shared 29th place, after going around ten under par thanks to eleven birdies – which means he ties Tom Hoge's course record at The Players Championship from 2023.
