Degerfors coach Henok Goitom chose to form the team with the homecomer Dijan Vukojevic from the start instead of Richie Omorowa – a move that would prove to be successful.
Already after eight minutes, Vukojevic fired a heavy shot from distance that burrowed behind Elfsborg's goalkeeper Simon Eriksson.
Elfsborg tried to strike back and were close to an equalizer after a little over half an hour. Arber Zeneli tested with a lob over an outgoing Matvei Igonen, but the ball slipped tightly outside.
Instead, it was Degerfors who extended the lead. In a lightning-fast transition, Santeri Haarala played Vukojevic forward, who safely scored his second goal of the day and gave the guests a two-goal lead.
Two goals and we create many chances, should have scored a third, it's okay, said two-goal scorer Vukojevic in Max's broadcast at halftime.
The second half was relatively eventless and closer than Per Frick's reduction never got the home team Elfsborg. Degerfors could bring home an important three-pointer in the Allsvenskan bottom struggle.
The team now has three points up to Halmstad on safe ground, which however has one match less played.
For Elfsborg's part, the chance for a European spot has begun to fade away. The Borås team is parked in eighth place.
