Nearly 100 vehicles, both cars and trucks, were involved in the massive crash between Enköping and Bålsta on E18 at lunchtime on Saturday. On E4 north of Uppsala, around a dozen vehicles crashed on Saturday morning.

The police now report that there are "many victims and people affected by the accidents" – but no suspects in the cases.

"The police will have difficulties investigating who may have committed traffic offenses in connection with the accidents due to the rapid weather change," the police write on their website.

In total, around 120 people were taken to hospital after the accidents, several with serious injuries. Two people were admitted to the intensive care unit.

Trafikverket's press chief Bengt Olsson stated that the massive crash on E18 was "one of the larger ones that have occurred" in Sweden.

"Given the number of cars involved in the two accidents, in Grillby nearly 100 vehicles, it's pure luck that it didn't get worse than it did," said Mikael Köhler, health and medical care director in Region Uppsala, in a press release.
