Combs was convicted in July for two cases of pimping-related crimes where he transported people to sexual meetings in different states in the USA. The maximum penalty for the two crimes is ten years each.
On Friday, the American district judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Combs to prison for four years and two months. He will also have to pay 500,000 dollars in fines, according to American media.
Before the judge announced the sentence length, Combs and his lawyers as well as the prosecution side presented their views on how long the sentence should be for several hours.
The prosecutor had requested imprisonment for at least eleven years and three months and a fine of 500,000 dollars. The defense, on the other hand, had advocated for imprisonment for a maximum of fourteen months, but that Diddy should be released because he had already been detained in a federal prison in Brooklyn for over a year.
Diddy burst into tears when he spoke to the judge and asked him to show mercy.
But Judge Subramanian said that Diddy's actions are serious crimes that "irreparably damaged two women".
He further stated that the court is not convinced that if Diddy was released, "these crimes would not be committed again".
Subramanian said that sexual violence is unfortunately not uncommon and therefore a significant sentence must be imposed to send a message to perpetrators and victims. But the sentence that the prosecution requested was, according to the judge, "not reasonable".
