Curaçao shocked the world by making it to its first-ever World Cup. The country will be the smallest ever to play in the tournament, but it will have to do so without the man who took them there.
78-year-old Dick Advocaat is leaving his position as national coach immediately because his daughter has suffered health problems.
"I have always said that family comes before football. This is therefore a natural decision," Advocaat said in a statement, continuing:
"I consider qualifying the world's smallest country for the World Cup to be one of the highlights of my career."
Fellow Dutchman Fred Rutten now takes over Curaçao, who face Germany, Ivory Coast and Ecuador in the World Cup group stage.
