When two of the Detroit Swedes, Lucas Raymond and Simon Edvinsson, stepped in and reduced to 1–5 and 2–5 in the third period, which also became the final score, the game was still pretty much over for the home team for a while.
Toronto's William Nylander and Oliver Ekman-Larsson assisted on each of Marner's hat-trick goals.
Dahlin on the move
Buffalo and the team's star defenseman Rasmus Dahlin seem to be gaining momentum with Christmas approaching. Against Chicago, they secured their second consecutive win, following 13 previous winless matches, and Dahlin contributed with two assists. Buffalo still remains at the bottom of their conference, however.
The Swedish head coach Anders Sörensen felt forced to replace Petr Mrazek in Chicago's goal with Arvid Söderblom after the first period. At that point, Mrazek had let in four goals on eleven shots. Söderblom saved 22 and let in two during his two periods.
Goalkeeper Jacob Markström made an outstanding performance when New Jersey beat one of the other top teams in their conference, Carolina. Markström did let in two goals, but saved 29 shots and played a significant role in New Jersey's 4–2 win. New Jersey has won the last six games Markström has been in goal.
