The federation leadership initially made few comments about the information that SVT released during the afternoon.
However, it was stated:
"Marcus is our national team captain," union chairman Tomas Eriksson tells TT.
Will he be there even after the World Cup?
"Marcus is our national team captain. That's the answer you get," Eriksson says.
The association later issued a press release emphasizing:
"Marcus has never resigned. In good dialogue between the players and the national team management, a plan has been put in place that we believe will be good for everyone involved, and we are very much looking forward to the Team World Cup in London," Eriksson wrote.
Conflicts in the team
Marcus Sjöberg took office in June last year. SVT reports that he is said to have grown tired of conflicts in the squad, where Truls Möregårdh and those around him, and the remaining players, form two groups.
According to SVT , Möregårdh is said to have demanded that during the pre-camp for the World Cup he be allowed to live in his own apartment and eat separately, not with the rest of the national team squad.
ToExpressen, Sjöberg denied reports that he had resigned.
"There is no truth to this at all. I have been clear that it has been a challenging period, but to drag it out this far and spread false rumours—that is not true. It feels like a low point that it has been portrayed as my resignation," he tells the newspaper.
Acknowledges conflict
He admits that there has been a conflict in the squad for a long time.
"There have been different opinions on different things. There have been ups and downs. But we have tried to find a good solution for all parties," Sjöberg says.
Truls Möregårdh's father Carl does not want to comment on SVT's information.
"I can't comment on anything," he told the TV channel.
The last time Sweden played a team championship, the European Championship in Croatia in October 2025, Truls Möregårdh was absent due to injury. The World Team Championships will be held April 28–May 10 in London, England.
