Anyone caught for "particularly reckless" speeding or drunk driving in Denmark risks having their car confiscated.
The cars can then be sold by the state, regardless of whether it was the car owner themselves who was caught or not. The sales have generated over 51 million Danish kronor, equivalent to over 74 million Swedish kronor, since the system was introduced in 2021.
In order for the offense to be categorized as a "joyride" and the car confiscated, the driver must either be considered to have put others in mortal danger or have at least 2.0 per mille alcohol in their blood or driven more than double the permitted speed if this is 100 km/h or more.
