The situation in northern Gaza is becoming increasingly desperate. Civilians are reported to be trapped under rubble and the sick and injured are left without care, warns the UN. Civil defense rescue efforts have been forced to pause. Those who can are trying to dig through the debris of destroyed buildings with their bare hands.
According to Israel, around 50,000 have fled the area, but civil defense claims that at least 100,000 are trapped.
100 arrested
A number of aid organizations, including Oxfam, have accused Israel of trying to starve out northern Gaza. The situation is particularly dire at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, according to reports. On Friday, Israeli soldiers entered the hospital, which is one of three functioning in the area. According to the WHO, at least 40 male healthcare workers have been detained.
On Monday, Israel claims that around 100 "terrorists" were arrested in the raid on the hospital. According to the military, weapons, money, and intelligence documents were found inside the hospital.
Kamal Adwan, like the nearby al-Awda Hospital and Indonesian Hospital, is now barely operational. Everything is lacking, writes The Guardian: staff, equipment, and fuel.
Back from Qatar
The head of the Israeli security service Mossad, David Barnea, has returned from hostage talks in Qatar, according to Israel. Barnea has discussed a new framework for an agreement on the release of the Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza with CIA chief Bill Burns and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani.
During the three-week siege of northern Gaza, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to the Hamas-controlled Palestinian healthcare system.
