The NFL club Dallas owner Jerry Jones showed the middle finger to a supporter during the away game against New York Jets in American football. Now the 82-year-old must pay a fine of over 2.3 million kronor (250,000 dollars) for the weekend's antics.

Jerry Jones himself claims it was an accident. Jones simply chose the wrong finger among the five he has on his right hand when he was to celebrate a touchdown for Dallas, who won with 37–22.

The intention was to give a thumbs up, says the Dallas Cowboys owner to a local radio station in Dallas, according to ESPN.

Everything was captured on film and has since been spread on social media. On the film, it can be seen that Jones first gives a thumbs up, before switching to his middle finger and then to his index finger, which he directs towards someone in the stands.

It was a form of interaction with our fans. There were masses of Cowboys fans in front of us, not Jets fans, says Jones.
