When the robbers fled after the spectacular jewel heist at the Louvre last fall, they lost one of the most valuable pieces of jewelry - the crown that belonged to Empress Eugénie. Now the museum has released images showing the flattened crown.

The museum says the crown, which was found shortly after the heist, is “severely deformed” but can be restored. Almost all of the 1,354 diamonds remain, and the 56 emeralds are intact, but the crown is missing one of its eight golden eagles.

On October 19 last year, four masked thieves carried out a spectacular heist at the art museum in Paris in just a few minutes.

The robbers made off with jewelry and gems worth nearly a billion kronor, and the heist shook France. Several people have been charged with involvement, but the rest of the loot has not been recovered.
