In 2023, the police in Södertälje launched Operation "Ragnhild" - an operation that primarily targeted the upper echelons of the so-called criminal pyramid.
The criminal pyramid often involves economic crime in various forms.
We may not always have gotten to the root of the cause; the violence exists because there is a market where criminals can make money from committing crimes, says task force leader Rickard Holz.
And "Ragnhild" has borne fruit.
“Reach the goal”
In November, a person with links to organized crime in Södertälje was sentenced to four years in prison for, among other things, aggravated fraud. In another case, a person was sentenced to three years in prison for aggravated money laundering and aggravated extortion, and in a separate case, a lawyer was sentenced to prison and banned from practicing law.
In addition, the police and other authorities have in various ways stopped several million kronor from being incorrectly paid out - and large recoveries have been requested.
For example, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency has stopped or withdrawn compensation in 21 cases in 2025 - and the Swedish Public Employment Service has decided to recover almost 3.5 million SEK.
Statistics and numbers aside, the biggest positive I see is how far we have come in being able to see a brighter picture of Södertälje, says Holz.
Rolling on
The "Ragnhild" initiative will continue throughout 2026.
We will be working on this throughout 2026 and probably even longer than that, says Holz.
