According to The Athletic, the 20-year-old fell during pre-season training and injured his left shoulder, and is expected to have surgery on Wednesday. He is now awaiting rehabilitation and, according to the club, will be out for a long time.
"We expect him to be fully recovered in approximately four months," Chicago team physician Michael Terry said in a statement.
This means that Chicago, where Swedes Anton Frondell and Arvid Söderblom play, will have to do without the team's biggest star. Bedard recorded 75 points (30+45) in 69 games last season before an injury kept him out of the season finale.
The NHL season begins in September.
