A goalkeeper's nightmare. That's what Charlie Lindgren experienced tonight. The own goal is the big talking point in NHL hockey. All's well that ends well? That's the question, but Lindgren left the ice as a winner.

07.25 minutes into the third period and with the match completely even – 3–3 – Washington's goalkeeper would only do something he had probably already done thousands of times in his career:

Clear away a puck behind the goal.

But this puck wanted otherwise. Lightly bouncing, it didn't get any better than Lindgren sweeping the puck into his own goal with a backhand.

It's the worst mistake I've made in my life, he says according to Aftonbladet.

Brayden Point, the last Tampa player to touch the puck, could surprisingly note that he had suddenly scored a hat-trick and that his team was in a 4–3 lead. It didn't hold and in overtime, Washington decided the game.

Most relieved afterwards was probably American Charlie Lindgren. His teammates were obviously also happy for Lindgren's sake, as they joked with him and congratulated him on his "first" goal in NHL.

Victor Hedman assisted on one of Tampa's goals.
