Alexander Isak's football future may get a new chapter on Friday. German Stuttgart confirms a bid from a "European club" for the 23-year-old striker Nick Woltemade. According to British media, it is Newcastle who wants to recruit the German, which could open up for Alexander Isak to get his transfer to Liverpool through.
At a press conference before the weekend's Premier League match against Leeds, Newcastle's coach Eddie Howe is asked about the German.
Things are going in the right direction. There are positive signs, says Howe, who does not want to confirm the transfer.
The most important thing is that we get a striker, he says.
No quick solution
When asked if Isak's situation has changed in recent days, Howe replies:
No.
Newcastle's coach is also asked if the recruitment of Woltemade affects Isak's situation:
After this situation is clarified, we can make the next decision. I never thought it would be a quick solution (with Isak).
Howe also denies that he promised the Swede a move if a replacement was recruited to the club.
Decision during the day
When asked if the Swede and the German can play together in Newcastle, Howe replies:
One is not available and one we have not recruited.
Newcastle has all summer repeated the desire for Isak to change his mind and continue playing for the club. The Swede has, however, seemingly made up his mind to try his luck somewhere else.
Regarding Woltemade, Stuttgart writes on their website that he has been given the green light to travel and discuss personal terms. They write further that "a decision in the matter is expected on Friday".
