So-called clone clubs are to be phased out of Swedish football. The decision was made by the board of representatives on Friday. However, the issue of reserve teams in the league system needs further investigation.

This probably means that it could take a few years before a new set of regulations comes into force.

When Swedish football gathered to discuss and make decisions about rule changes, the council of representatives decided to phase out clone associations, but first a proposal for how to do so must be developed.

According to the decision, the so-called football development association collaborations will also be prohibited when the new system is introduced, writes TV4 Fotbollskanalen.

The current system allows clubs to loan U22 players to a team in a lower league. At the same time, the club can use the player.

In the long term, this decision will affect all of Swedish football. Both the elite and the general public, says Axel Fägerhall, group manager for the association's competition group.

There are currently around 100 clone associations in Sweden.

"It is incredibly important that we have a plan for what we do when those clubs are liquidated. The implementation is entirely dependent on how we position ourselves on the issue of second teams," Fägerhall tells TV4 Football Channel.
