In total, more than 32 million passengers traveled via Swedavia's ten airports last year. This is indeed one percent higher than in 2023, but at the same time, the figures can be compared to how it looked before the coronavirus pandemic broke out at the beginning of 2020, when the aviation industry was hit hard.
The number of trips is only at 81 percent compared to the level before the pandemic. There is also a different development when it comes to domestic and international travel. While international travel increased by five percent, domestic travel decreased by nine percent.
"The year ended strongly, and the number of passengers at our ten airports increased by four percent in December compared to December 2023. The demand for international travel has continued to grow, and the decline in domestic travel slowed down during the second half of the month," says CEO Jonas Abrahamsson in a press release.
Among the airports with the largest decline in domestic travel, Landvetter in Gothenburg stands out, with a decline of ten percent compared to 2023. For Arlanda, the decline was four percent.
