Thus, it is the second most expensive film souvenir sold at an auction, after the sale of a pair of red sequined shoes from "The Wizard of Oz" which was sold for over 300 million kronor last year, according to The Guardian.

"Citizen Kane" by and with Orson Welles begins with a dying main character, Charles Foster Kane, whose last words "rosebud" (rosebud in Swedish) perplex - and set the action in the film in motion.

Through flashbacks, the life of the power-hungry newspaper magnate Kane is told - and those who do not want to have an 84-year-old film spoiled should stop reading now.

After Kane's death, parts of his assets are burned, including the sled from his poor childhood winters which turns out to bear the name "Rosebud".

The sled that was sold is not alone in its kind, writes the auction house Heritage Auctions. Several of them were burned during filming, but Steven Spielberg owns one of three surviving examples. This example was sold by another film director, Joe Dante, who has made, among other things, "Gremlins".
