Cases of cholera are increasing in war-torn Sudan. According to the country's health department, the disease has claimed 172 human lives in a week.

Even Doctors Without Borders (MSF) report on a growing cholera outbreak. According to the organization, up to 2,000 suspected cholera-infected individuals received treatment for the disease in Sudan last week.

According to MSF, the outbreak started in mid-May and in the area around the country's capital Khartum, hundreds of patients have received care. The neighboring city of Omdurman is reported to be the epicenter of the infection spread.

In March, reports came from the region just south of the capital Khartum that 92 people had died and 2,700 people had fallen ill with cholera.
