Two Chinese citizens were killed in an explosion outside Karachi's airport in Pakistan on Sunday, according to representatives of the two countries.
Initially, the authorities reported that a tanker truck had exploded, but the police have since confirmed that it was a bomb attack. The separatist group Baluchistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Chinese embassy stated in a statement that a convoy of employees from a private Chinese company was attacked on Sunday, resulting in two Chinese nationals being killed and one more injured. Pakistani citizens are also reported to have been injured.
Thousands of Chinese workers are present in Pakistan due to Beijing's international multi-billion investment in infrastructure, BRI, also known as "the new Silk Road".
The attack follows a series of bloody attacks in the province of Balochistan, where separatists are demanding self-rule. According to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the attackers aim to harm Chinese development projects.
