China's Vice President Han Zheng met with the US Vice President-elect JD Vance in the USA, the evening before Vance and Trump took the oath in Washington DC on Monday.
Han Zheng spoke during the meeting on Sunday, among other things, about fentanyl, trade balance, and regional stability, according to Trump's transition team. According to a Chinese report, he also brought up "extensive common interests and the enormous space for cooperation" between the countries, despite "certain differences and frictions".
Donald Trump has threatened to impose fees and other measures against China during his second term, but has also spoken about ways the two superpowers can cooperate.
China's President Xi Jinping is invited to Trump's inauguration ceremony but will not attend. The two leaders, however, already discussed trade, fentanyl, and Tiktok in a phone call on Friday.
