Canada's Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said on Wednesday that the executions were carried out in recent weeks, despite the government's appeal for milder penalties.
We strongly condemn the executions that have taken place against Canadians in China, she says.
All individuals had dual citizenship, which China does not recognize, reports BBC.
Out of respect for the families' wishes, Joly did not go further into the cases, but according to Beijing, it concerns drug-related crimes.
China is a country governed by the rule of law, says Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Thursday.
The Chinese Embassy in Canada also states in a statement that they have "zero tolerance" for drugs and "China always imposes severe penalties for drug-related crimes".
China classifies statistics on the death penalty as state secrets, but human rights organization Amnesty International estimates that thousands are executed every year.
