After a slightly delayed landing at Arlanda, the big team Chelsea is finally in Stockholm to take on Djurgården in the semi-final of the Conference League.
And where the favorite status lies before Thursday's match is not up for debate.
Chelsea is one of England's largest clubs and lies fifth in the Premier League, while Djurgården has had a struggling start and lies in eleventh place in Allsvenskan.
But it's not just the form between the teams that makes anything other than advancement for Chelsea a major failure.
Spent over 15 billion
Chelsea has, since the American consortium BlueCo bought the club, with Todd Boehly at the helm, spent sums that Djurgården, and all the other Swedish clubs, can only dream of.
Since May 2022, the club has spent over 15 billion kronor, and the squad today is worth almost 44 times as much as Djurgården's, according to the football database Transfermarkt.
Just the star player Cole Palmer, who is Chelsea's most prominent player, is worth almost 1.2 billion kronor more than Djurgården's entire squad, which reaches just over 232 million in value.
But despite this, coach Enzo Maresca does not want to paint his team as favorites.
You don't win titles with money, and we know that. So it's not about how much you spend or how you act during the transfer window. You won't win titles just because you spend, he says and continues:
You need to spend, but in the right way.
"Completely different"
Djurgården, however, has an advantage over the big club on Thursday.
The artificial turf.
Chelsea plays all their matches on natural grass, and thus Thursday's match will be a completely different experience for the big team.
It's completely different. I know that some of their players have complained a bit about the pitch in recent weeks, which is good for us. They play here every week, and for us it's completely different. But we have no excuses, there's no reason why we shouldn't be able to perform well tomorrow and give ourselves a good position ahead of the return leg at home, says Maresca.
The match starts at 21.00 on Thursday.
