She played Leonardo DiCaprio's daughter in "One Battle After Another" and was praised for her portrayal of the innocent Willa. In the TV series "The Testaments", a sort of continuation of "The Handmaid's Tale", she plays the role of June Osborne's daughter.
"I hope that those who watch the series will be scared and that they will absorb the content," she tells TT.
Nominated for awards
Chase Infiniti got the role in Paul Thomas Anderson's six-time Oscar winner "One Battle After Another" after six months of auditions and test filming. It paid off. She has received a number of nominations for various awards, including at the Golden Globes and the British Bafta.
In “The Testaments,” she plays one of the young women living in Gilead, the breakaway country where men decide everything and it is the women's job to obey.
The series is based on Margaret Atwood's novel, which in Sweden is titled "Daughters of Gilead".
"We are exposed to so much information these days that it's easy for alarm reports to drown out other things, causing us to become numb, whether it's fiction or reality. So I hope that those who watch the series will be moved and take that fire with them."
“Are privileged”
How is this story different from “The Handmaid's Tale”?
"Here the focus is on the young girls and what they go through on their way to becoming young women. They are privileged, in contrast to the maids who were forced to be there against their will."
Like several others on the television crew, she sees similarities between Gilead and today's United States.
"Unfortunately, yes. We've talked about women's rights and how they're declining in the United States. It was unthinkable that something like that could happen. Trump and authoritarianism, it's really scary. There are too many similarities."
"You can of course identify with it in the US, because that's basically where Gilead is. But I think audiences around the world will identify with it, because there's nowhere that's perfect."
Ends with a cliffhanger
The series ends with a cliffhanger and series creator Bruce Miller tells TT that he hopes for at least three new seasons.
Finally, Chase Infiniti gets to explain her unusual name - which is based on her parents' love of movies.
"I got my first name from "Batman Forever". Nicole Kidman's character was called Chase Meridian. And my middle name, Infiniti, came from "Toy Story", where Buzz Lightyear said "to infinity and beyond"."
